Construction Information

The Soak Away is set back from the property 5 meters and was dug out to the following dims.
1.4 meters Deep x 1.2 Meters long 1 Meter Wide.

As you can see from the pictures the ground condition is excellent for the soak away being made up mainly of sand and gravel.

There is approximately 6" of top soil then the ground became very sandy.

During the period of the hole being dug and not filled with hard core we had a large rain downpour. The water that was being delivered into the soak away hole was soaking away without any build up.

In the bottom of the soak away I laid a number of 7Nm concrete blocks on the floor to create a good solid base yet being able to create large voids that exposed the base of the soak away.

I built this up to about half way. Then I began to fill the remainder of the hole with smaller stones that would fill in the smaller areas. this gave me a nice flat level surface at the top.

I used a further five 7Nm concrete blocks to create a central raised point both sides of the waste water pipe inlet. I then laid 2 concrete slabs over the top of the Pipe supported on the concrete blocks.

Next I covered the slabs and top of the hard core soak away in BPC plastic sheet. This will help with 2 aspects of the construction. 1. It will stop any of the backfill sand/ Gravel / Top soil passing into the hardcore mass. 2. It will also stop the concrete slabs from drawing the water out of the ground and making the grass above dry and hard to grow. If this grass becomes dry quicker than the rest of the lawn you will always be able to see were it is as a brown mark in your lawn. The plastic should reduce this problem.

Just need to backfill around with water inlet pipe and lay some turf and this job is complete.
