Work Done On The 26/06/2011
Instulation of 3 Velux Windows center pivot roof windows
Size C04 550mm x 980mm
EDW 0000 Flashing kit for deep tile instulation.
Today was very hot and still is to be honhest
So How did the day go?
I spent a more time than anticipated on the inside of the room ensuring the 3 windows are in line as they are between 2 separate rooms.
I used the laser level to mark a horizontal line across the inside of the roof joists. This was a little tricky as i had to ensure there was enough clearance from the main roof purling as this was not horizontally true.
I managed to install 1 of the 3 windows but have gained a lot of information from this task and i should be able to install the remaining 2 windows over next weekend.
In Summery what did this job in tail.
Mark all ke levels Levels
Remove roof tiles
Cut out old Felt and Roof Laths
Cut out centre roof truss
Make rectangular frame to replace structural truss that was removed
Install made frame into roof in correct position.
Install new laths to support window and roof tiles
Remove fixings from old laths to allow fitment of under tile felt.
Ensure the new felt lies under old existing felt to ensure water run off
Install Velux outer frame into roof and screw down.
Install window unit into Velux outer frame and test the closure process.
Is the Velux Outer frame square? Level window frame if needed.
Remove window unit in prep for flashing kit fitment.
Fit flashing kit from bottom working towards the top.
Replace STD roof tiles.
Cut Roof tiles in line with the edges of the Velux flashing kit water gully
Refit main Velux window unit and close as it is probably the end of the day.
Tidy Up JOB Done!
Update 04/08/2011
Remaining two windows fitted during the main 3 week summer shutdown.
The process of fitting these windows went smoother due to the learning curve of the first window.
One outstanding task is to fit the tiles that run down the sides of the window.
It is water tight due to the underlay.
